Shopify + CRO for food and drink

In food and drink, shipping economics decide the store before design does.

Heavy products, thin margins and a threshold nobody set against real data. This is our work on food and beverage stores, and what we would ask any agency before signing.

Proscube is a Shopify and conversion-rate-optimisation studio working with food, drink and nutrition brands. We build pack ladders around margin rather than around discount, make delivery cost predictable before checkout, and ship product page rebuilds as live A/B tests. We work with DTC brands across the US, UK, Europe and Australia.

Staples, functional drinks and nutrition. Every one of these is our design and our build, and a few are linked live so you can go and use them.

What actually moves a food and drink PDP

Five things wrong with almost every food and beverage product page.

Ordered roughly by what they cost. The first two are worth more than any redesign.

01

The pack ladder was built around discount, not margin

Bundles and multi-packs should be priced so the option that is best for the customer is also the one that ships economically. Discounting every tier identically gives the customer no reason to trade up and gives you no margin benefit when they do.

Granos — the range presented as packs rather than single units

02

Shipping cost arrives as a surprise

Food is heavy and delivery is expensive, which makes this the category where an unexpected shipping charge at checkout does the most damage. State the threshold on the product page and show how far the basket is from it. That single change does more than most redesigns.

03

The trust layer is below the fold

Certifications, sourcing, allergen information and what is actually in it. In a category people put in their bodies, this is the decision, and it routinely sits in a tab nobody opens.

Skyway — what is in it, and why, stated before the buy button

04

Repeat purchase is assumed rather than designed

Consumables run out on a schedule and most stores leave the customer to remember. Replenishment timed to the pack size actually bought, and a reorder path that takes one tap, are worth more than any acquisition spend.

Granos — shop by diet, so a repeat buyer finds their set fast

05

Shelf life is not reflected in the offer

Discounting stock that is about to turn is an operations decision that shows up on the storefront. Bundles and flash offers built around real inventory ageing protect margin better than blanket promotions, and nobody builds the mechanism for it.

How we start

You only pay if it wins.

We rebuild one product page — the one carrying your ad spend, or your hero SKU. It goes live as an A/B test against your current page. If our version doesn't win, you don't pay, and you keep the page you had.

We can offer that because the test decides, not us. It also puts the risk of a first engagement on our side of the table rather than yours. If it wins, you pay for that page, and then you decide whether we carry on.

Pick a page to test
  • One page: the PDP behind your ads, or your best seller
  • Shipped live as an A/B test against your current page
  • If it doesn't win, no invoice — and your original page stays
  • If it wins, you decide whether we continue

Choosing an agency

Five questions worth asking. Ask us too.

If you are comparing agencies for a food or drink brand, these separate them faster than a portfolio review will.

Can you show me a test that lost, or one that proved nothing?

The most useful question available. Anyone running a real volume of A/B tests has plenty of both — roughly half of all tests fail to beat control. A portfolio of unbroken wins is a filtered record, not a good one.

Our answer

Yes. Our Pawpeye test is published with its dashboard and the plain statement that the result has not settled — the raw numbers say a 77% lift and it rests on eleven add-to-cart events against six. We would rather say that than publish the headline.

How would you set our free-shipping threshold?

A specific question with a right answer, and the response tells you whether the agency thinks about margin or only about design. Most thresholds are a round number somebody picked.

Our answer

Against your actual basket data, slightly above current average order value so it pulls baskets up rather than subsidising the ones you already had. Then made visible on the product page with the gap stated, because a threshold nobody sees does nothing.

How will we agree what winning means?

Get the primary metric in writing before anything ships. "Conversion improved" measured against last month is a season, a promotion, or a change in traffic mix.

Our answer

One primary metric agreed before we start, usually add-to-cart rate. Even 50/50 split against your current page, reported from the dashboard you can open yourself. If a page cannot settle in a sensible window we say so before starting.

What happens if it doesn't work?

The answer tells you how the risk is shared. A fixed fee regardless of outcome is normal and defensible — but you should know that is what you are buying.

Our answer

No invoice, and your original page stays live. That is the offer above: we take the first engagement on the result rather than on the hours.

Where our clients are

US, UK and Europe, Australia.

We work with DTC brands across three time zones. What changes between them is rarely the structural problem — it is traffic volume, which decides how fast anything can be proven.

United States

Our largest market and the easiest place to test, because the traffic is there. A page with real US volume can settle a split test in days rather than weeks.

United Kingdom & Europe

Smaller per-market volume, so tests take longer and the temptation to call them early is stronger. Multi-currency and VAT are usually a Shopify Markets question rather than a design one.

Australia & New Zealand

Modest domestic volume and high shipping sensitivity. Free-shipping thresholds and pack economics tend to be the highest-leverage things to get right.

We work asynchronously and overlap live for calls. The test runs in your dashboard and you see exactly what we see.

Questions

The ones we get asked.

Something not covered here? Ask us directly.

On the storefront side, yes — delivery date selection, cut-off logic, regional availability and clear expectations before checkout. The cold chain itself is your logistics partner, but the store has to communicate its constraints accurately or you get refused deliveries and the worst kind of review.

Around how the products are actually used or consumed together, and priced so the combination that suits the customer also ships economically. A bundle that is only a discount trains people to wait for the next one; a bundle that reflects a real routine raises order value and gets reordered.

Set the threshold against your real basket data rather than a round number, place it slightly above current average order value, and show it on the product page rather than at checkout. Most brands we meet set it by instinct and are either giving away margin or scaring off single-item buyers.

Frequently, and the useful thing is usually keeping the two catalogues on one system with company-level pricing rather than running separate stores. Two stores means two of everything permanently, and the duplication cost grows faster than the channel does.

Shopify builds start at $8K and CRO work at $5K. Those are starting points rather than quotes — we fix the number in writing after a discovery call. The single-page test is the exception: you pay only if it wins.
