Both buy labels at better rates than you would get alone. The difference is everything around the label.
ShipStation
Built for a team picking and packing. Batch label printing, pick lists, automation rules that assign carriers and services by weight, destination or product. Multi-warehouse and multi-channel.
The right answer once more than one person is fulfilling, or once you are shipping enough that routing rules save real time.
Shippo
Cleaner, cheaper, and strongest as an API. If you want rate shopping inside your own flow, or you are building something custom, Shippo is the easier integration.
As an end-user tool it is lighter — fine at modest volume, thin once you need picking workflows.
| ShipStation | Shippo | |
|---|---|---|
| Batch and pick lists | Strong | Basic |
| Automation rules | Deep | Simpler |
| Multi-warehouse | Yes | Limited |
| API for custom builds | Available | The main strength |
| Cost | Higher, tiered by volume | Lower, per-label option |
| Best for | A fulfilment team | A small team or a custom integration |
What matters more than either
Rates shown on the product page. Shipping revealed at checkout is the largest single cause of abandonment, and neither tool fixes that — it is a storefront decision.
A delivery date rather than a window. "Arrives Thursday" beats "3-5 business days" and both tools can give you the data to say it.
Threshold set against real basket data. Not a round number somebody picked.
Before buying shipping software, check whether your problem is actually fulfilment speed or whether it is that customers do not know what shipping costs until the last step. The second is far more expensive and costs nothing to fix.
Talk it through
Tell us your order volume and how many people pack.
We will tell you whether you need fulfilment software yet, and whether your real shipping problem is on the product page instead.
Ask usA real read within one business day — not a sales call.
